[Opinions] Isabel and Isabelle
Thanks to Martha's reply to my post I was reminded of this pretty name today.
I used to really love it as Isabelle for a long long time. Lately, I have been liking Isabel a lot as well.
So I guess I can't really decide.
Which do you prefer Isabelle or Isabel (other spellings such as the German Isabell and Scottish Isobel are not an option)?
It was quite common in the UK but never all that common in the US and I guess overall still a lot less common than Isabella.
Do you think it will get mistaken for Isabella?
Do you think she will get called Izzy (which I dislike)?

Nick names will happen whether parents want them to or not, the parents isn't around them 24/7 presumably their whole childhood to enforce it. Kids give each other nicknames it's a natural occurrence. This is why all common nicknames for any prospective name should be taken into account when picking something.

Obviously you can't totally enforce it.......but if someone doesn't want to be called something, surely they can ask people not to call them it...?
As an Isabel I am biased, but I strongly prefer this spelling. Isabelle just seems unnecessarily elaborate and over the top. And I don’t know why, but the o in Isobel jars me every time.
I get called Isabella and Elizabeth by people and it annoys the hell out of me. I hate those names with a passion (probably as a result).
Yes, Izzy is common, Bel less so.

It's a lovely name, I like both spellings
I prefer Isabel. I don't think it would get mistaken for Isabella or necessarily called Izzy.
I have a strong preference for Isabel. It's very tidy and graceful.
Isabela is nice, but Isabella kinda turns me off. Maybe because of the popularity, that makes it start to seem too sweet/princessy.
Sure it'd sometimes get mistaken for Isabella, but for the most part, that's a big whatever, because they're basically the same name and those mistakes don't generally get recorded as fact. People do that with my name (add an A) and IDCAA.
Yeah, she'd get called Izzy and if she liked that, you couldn't do a thing about it. Too bad ... but IMO IRL there's no reason to give a damn because it's not your name.

Isabelle is fine in a French context, but I don't see the point of using the French spelling and then mangling the pronunciation - usually izaBEL with the English, not the French L. I like Isabel very much. It was never very common here in South Africa, but never so rare as to be unfamiliar.
I heartily dislike Isabella. When I was a student, I knew two girls who were best friends and doing the same courses: both small, dark, pretty and both named some form of Isabel - I never knew what their names were, but their nns were Bella and Iz!

Of the two spellings, Isabel is my favorite. But to me, they are both the same name at the end of the day. I'm in the US, I think all versions of this name have been immensely popular. Maybe that's regional? I honestly don't much differentiate between Isabel, Isabelle or Isabella. The ones I know do not get called Izzy very much that I know of.
