It is. Kids can be mean. If you're a kid who doesn't line up with the "normal" then they'll choose anything no matter how silly. It's possible to raise your kids to not care about other's opinions / silly comments on names, but I'm sure that's difficult to do and would rely heavily on the child's own demeanor.
Our Stef didn't care, or didn't seem to. In retrospect it's hard to tell because well... let's say shit happened. I can elaborate if you want, but I will withdraw the semi-essay for now.
