[Opinions] Lisa
My fortieth high school reunion was held last October. I didn't attend, but as a member of the Facebook group dedicated to planning the reunion, I was privy to the pictures taken at the event. There was one picture of three of my classmates standing together smiling at the camera. I think I know why that particular picture was taken. All three are named Lisa. It reminded me of how obnoxiously (IMO) common / popular this name was in my generation.
So much so that it's hard for me to separate it from that, and it's always seemed so boring to me. But now and then I've been able to put myself back in time and see the appeal for parents in the 1960s who hadn't grown up with a million Lisas.
What do you think of Lisa? Can you separate the name from the fact that it's dated?

At first it just sounds like an 80's name to me, but it is pretty in isolation. The more I look at it and repeat it, the better it sounds. It's sort of a soft, wispy but elegant kind of name. With the cultural context though, I don't think of that kind of person at all.
I can't separate the name from the datedness. There were so many of them in such a short time that we all knew pretty ones and plain ones, bright ones and dim ones, successful ones and flops ... I could go on. No chance of individuality anywhere.
That said, my DS has/had a Dutch girlfriend named Lisette, and since she's the only one I've ever met, I am perfectly able to like it (and her, admittedly!) a lot.

I knew a ton of Lisas too. I just realized this is probably why I don't like Alyssa, Elisa and so on! Never thought of that!
I'm watching Dr. House reruns right now. The character Lisa Cuddy is played by a woman whose name is Lisa in real life. She seems just like a Lisa.
Lisa, in my experience, is usually outgoing, big smile, talkative.
It's not my style, but will prob regain some points on the charts.

I can separate myself and see why it got popular, but I will forever associate it with late 60s early 70s generation, same thing with Heather. I like the flower, I like the sound but so dated at the same time.
It’s my mother-in-law’s name. (Her parents were a little ahead of their time.)
I don’t like it. It’s very nicknamey to me. Theda’s middle name is Lily, partly as a VERY abstract way to honour my MIL, because they can technically both be nicknames for Elisabeth, but mostly because it’s hubby’s favourite flower. I feel like we’re off the hook for honouring her though, and I’m thankful.

I've known many people named Lisa: my sister, sisters-in-law (two of them), my dh's ex wife and numerous wives of cousins. That's not counting people I've worked with and went to school/church with at some point. I've never liked it and that's probably because it was so common. I find it boring as hell and really can't separate it from its massive popularity. Now I do like Elise and even Elisa.

I've only ever met one Lisa in my life. I think it's pretty.
There were several Lisas in my class, which I guess was regional because it was less popular than my name, and I was the only one with my name. I was born in 1989.
Anyway, I hate Lisa. Not because it's dated but because of the overall vibe. It reminds me of my dislike of Mia and Donna.

I don't know what I'd think of it, if only I'd ever met one single Lisa I found likeable. Lisas were as bad as Kimberlys, in my experience.
I think I might otherwise like Lisa if it weren't dated, or even despite it being dated. It goes with Lori and Tina, date-wise - two other names I dislike. But I think it does age a little more gracefully than those, more like Linda or Karen or Michelle.
I hadn't even realized that Lisa sat at #1 for eight years. That's a lotta Lisas.

It's a nice enough name and to me, I don't see the name as dated. Or, at least not terribly.
A few years back one of my neighbor's kid had a friend over whose name was this. Today, this Lisa would be around 13-14.
