I have not hosted a KUY is a really,
really long time. But since saphirdufeu's imaginative Medieval KUY, I decided to try my hand at another. But
this time... were going into the Renaissance, baby! Sixteenth century, here we go!
And please, feel absolutely free to write a story to go with your characters!
When I first thought of doing this, I had thought about making participants roll for ethnicity (Italian, English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, or Russian), and use the corresponding namebanks. But then I realized that I would have to make about eight times more namebanks for future rounds, if multiple participants were in different countries. So I decided to localize it:
We are in
England, 1593! The height of Elizabethan theater! (Sometimes I'll bring in outside influences / characters - this is, after all, the Renaissance.)
We shall start with the initial couple:
SO1:
SO2:
While ages will be up to you, for each SO you will roll a d-8 to determine their background or their family's background (dice can be found here:
http://www.brockjones.com/dieroller/dice.htm):
1. Nobility
2. Landed gentry ("gentleman" / "gentlewoman")
3. Legal official (MP - Commons, judge, solicitor / attorney / proctor, watchman, etc.)
4. Merchant
5. Artisan / craftsman (master, journeyman, or apprentice)
6. Tenant farmer
7. Artist (painter, actor, writer, etc.)
8. Criminal
Then, let's roll for kids! Roll a d-10, and the number determines how many kids they have:
1 or 6: 1 child
2 or 7: 2 children
3 or 8: 3 children
4 or 9: 4 children
5 or 10:
no children
Genders are determined by the roll of the die: odd = boy, even = girl. For the ages of the kids (if there are any), roll the d-10, and then add 10 years. Whether any are step-children, or wards / fosters, is entirely up to you.
Now, roll for names!
Names (if you wish to alter spellings of some names, since spellings weren't standardized for this time - e.g. Katheryn instead of Catherine - feel free!):
1. Any from here:
https://www.behindthename.com/names/usage/greek-mythology,roman-mythology2. Benjamin Caleb Daniel David Isaac Jacob Joseph Michael Nathaniel Paul / Abigail Deborah Hannah Hester Martha Rachel Rebecca Ruth Sarah Tabitha
3. Any from here:

choice 10 for the corresponding genders!
7. Atpeace Canaan Creedence Eleazar Hosea Ichabod Pardon Phineas Prosper Repentance / Bathsheba Constant Endure Gethsemane Jael Joy-in-sorrow Mehitabel Modesty Peninnah Thomasin*
8. Anthony Bertram Duncan Hamnet Launce Malcolm Pharamond Timon Tybalt Yorick / Audrey Beatrice Claribell Gertrude Hermia Hero Julia Lucetta Rosalind
9. Free choice from any name presented here!
10. Charles Christopher Edward Henry James John Peter Stephen Thomas William / Anne Catherine Cecily Eleanor Frances Jane Joan Margaret Mary Sophia
