"Please try to understand. It wasn't safe then," said the lady sitting in their kitchen. She claimed to be the Queen, but the twins were having a hard time wrapping their heads around that despite the royal guard outside. "You're older now and it's time you knew the truth."
"Our powers aren't even dangerous," Basha said curtly. "We use them to help people. We healed Tancred when he tumbled off the ridge last winter."
"I know and it's time your people know that too," the Queen said as carefully as she could.
"Our people," Nala repeated, unimpessed.
Basha laughed a quick and incredulous sound. "Are you about to tell us we have to lead soldiers into battles or marry foreign nobles?"
And for a moment, no one said a word as they all looked back and forth between one another and then little Tancred broke the silence and walked up with his arms out. Basha caught the smaller child in a hug.
"That's okay. You'll always be my brother."
