My real first name is Lucille. It's a good name that is rare enough to kind of make me stand out from the crowd (in a good way). I've met only one other Lucille in my life, and she was about two years my junior and coincidentally came from a neighbouring village.
I have never been called Lucie or Lucy, I always go by my full name. Only my paternal grandmother will regularly call me Celia. My late maternal grandfather would sometimes call me Cilleke (pronounced as SEEL-kə). I've been called Lu on the Internet sometimes, but that's about it. Out of all the abbreviations of my name that I have been called, I prefer Celia by far.
But at the end of the day, I prefer to be called by my full name, which the great majority of people fortunately do respect. Abbreviations or nicknames generally feel a little bit "cheapish" to me - with the exception of Celia, which does sound distinguished - so that is also part of why I prefer to go by my full name at all times.
My only regret with my name is that my parents hadn't named me Lucilia instead, as I think that looks more distinguished and feminine than Lucille. Plus I love feminine names ending in -a. But as it is, Lucille certainly isn't all that bad. I could've been worse off and have been given a name like Cindy, Kim, Michelle, Wendy, Vera, etc. (as many of my age group). *shudder*
So, as far as I am concerned, if you wish to name your future daughter Lucille, then go ahead. She will stand out from the rest and not be one out of 5 Lucille's in her class at school.
As for the names Lunet, Lunete and Lunette: I most prefer Lunette. Lunete looks like someone forgot the second 't', and Lunet is even more incomplete and sounds simpleton-ish. Just stick with Lunette, it's the proper French form and that one is unique and uncommon enough as it is already. No need to butcher a good name by attempting to make it appear more unique.
