The whole of Elsey took a week-long holiday when Queen Felipa gave birth to a healthy first child. The whole kingdom was ecstatic to see a child born so soon, yet obviously conceived after the wedding. Many in the kingdom are thinking that this is a sign of the prosperous times and good fortune that will grace King Estienne's rule.
However, no one was more excited to welcome a child into the Royal family then Ten and Pippa. The pregnancy, while not expected to happen quite so soon, was a breeze for Pippa and both child and mother recovered from the birth rapidly. It was after the recovery that Pippa started to have trouble. She was determined to be a part of Basi's life and refused to let the wet-nurse even nurse him once. At first, this was quite a scandal... not just a Royal, but the Queen! And nursing her child herself!
In the end, Pippa's sparkling personality and devotion to both Basi and Ten overrode most people's initial shock and upset. Most found themselves supporting her right to be a mother to her children, and thinking about how well it will do the children in the long run. Many even found themselves imitating her.
As little Basi neared his 6th moon-day, Pippa found that she was still adjusting to life as a new Queen, a wife, and a mother. The Royal Advisors were pressuring Ten to produce another heir. They kept reminding both Ten and Pippa that Elsey relied on many heirs, and that a lack of heirs was considered bad luck for the WHOLE KINGDOM. As little Basi neared his 1 year birthday the Royal Advisors tried telling Ten and Pippa outright that it was time for Pippa to stop nursing and start trying for another child.
To say Pippa lost it would be similar to saying that a volcanic eruption is a minor disturbance. Pippa told the whole of the Royal Advisors (every one of them old men) that if they wanted a breeding rabbit that they had the WRONG noble. She informed them that she would be more then happy to continue growing her family as long as her body was able... but at a pace that was right for her. And if they didn't like it, that they could go take a watermelon and try the experience for themselves. Every one of the Royal Advisors would have left in a huff if it wasn't for the fact that she outranked them AND did so first!
Ten stood by Pippa, and went to the Mother-Cardea temple (a temple of woman devoted to health, especially as it relates to pregnancy/birth) to find some matron-priestess who would come and explain to his Royal Advisors about pregnancy, birth, and the care of an infant. Ten basically made all of the Royal Advisors attend a class/lecture put on by the group of matron-priestess. The matron-priestess explained how difficult the whole of the pregnancy was, and that the birthing experience was basically cramming the whole of the pregnancy into one small period of time. The Royal Advisors were informed that this was so hard on women that healthy women could get sick, could die, or could find themselves barren just because of pregnancy. It was a real eye opener to the Royal Advisors, who each went and quietly apologized to Pippa for pushing so hard.
And so it was that Pippa was not pressured into conceiving another child right away. She had the time to allow her body to finish maturing and to grow into her new roles as Queen, wife and mother.
