[Games] Re: Nyx' Royal Congrats - Round 1
in reply to a message by Nyx
Deceased King: Balthazar Julien Conrad Orion
Dowager Queen: Matilda Henrietta Cressida Delphine [64]King: Adrian Robert Conrad Scorpius [25]
Queen: Elinor Katherine Lucinda Rose [17]
Prince: Caspar Ignatius Vincent Basil [nb]From the Royal House of: Crescent
Kingdom: GaiaQueen Elinor did not want her mother to return to their island home after her wedding to the King Adrian, but she knew that she had to. Her mother was the Lady of Flowers, and her people looked to her to leadership, and they would have done the same someday for her had King Adrian not asked for her hand in marriage. Instead, she became queen, and his mother the Queen Dowager Matilda had no love for her daughter by marriage."Your worth is only as far as you provide heirs to the throne." The queen told her disparagingly. Elinor wanted to feel sympathy for her, for she suffered miscarriage after miscarriage and the pressure on her to produce and heir had clearly embittered her. At the age of 40 when she finally did, the whole kingdom had rejoiced, but those council members who had whispers about King Balthazar setting aside his wife for a younger woman, had to flee for their lives when Queen Matilda decided to enact some vengeance on them.A stern imposing woman, she did not approve of her son's hasty and not politically sound marriage. She especially didn't approve of her good daughter's brown skin and exotically red colored hair and green eyes. "I hope the children you give us won't take after your side of the family," she sneered. The ease in which Elinor got pregnant with her first child enraged her, so much so that King Adrian sent his mother away to stay with relatives for fear that she would upset his young wife so terribly, that she might have a miscarriage or worse."I'm sorry, my love, I won't be able to keep her away permanently. It's longstanding tradition for the Dowager Queen to live out the remainder of her life in the castle.""But you're the King." Elinor pleaded with him. "Surely you could buck tradition if you wanted to.""Aye, I could, but my mother has many friends in the court. I took a risk politically by marrying you; I can't risk further division in my court."She wanted to say to him: "You didn't have to marry me! I was happy where I was living without a care in the world on my lovely peaceful little island." However, she held her tongue. For his part King Adrian was a thoughtful, kind husband who always spoke to her gently, and often gave her gifts. She could make any request, and he would grant it to her. She wondered what he would do if he asked if she could go home, but she knew she shouldn't. He would expect her to come back, and she's not sure if she could willingly leave the Isle of Flowers if she returned. If it weren't for her brother, and her ladies in waiting, Elinor would have truly gone mad from loneliness. Her brother, Basil, was a source of great comfort for her. He was 23 years of age, with hair as red as hers. Strong and muscular and had trained for combat with a sword soon as he was old enough to hold one. Decked out in armor, Elinor felt comforted and protected by his presence. Her ladies in waiting were girls she grew up with since eary childhood who came from the island with her. Cornelia's father had been Gaian, and so she had black hair and skin pale enough that she could pass for Gaian in the way the others could not. Adeline had skin even darker than Elinor's though, and her hair a mousy brown, but she had a lovely smile and pretty violet eyes. Finally, there was Elinor's "twin" Genoveva who despite not actually be related to her blood, looked so much like the queen, that as children they joked about having been twins separated from birth.Queen Elinor and King Adrian's son, Prince Caspar Ignatius Vincent Basil, was born on a beautiful autumn day. The pregnancy had gone well for the young queen with little complications and the labor though painful was blessedly short. The prince soon had his name announced. The first three were all names belonging to King Adrian's family, but he let her choose the last middle name. Her brother was touched and honored that she chose his name. "I cannot wait until he's old enough for me to train with the sword." Basil grins as he held his nephew for the first time.Elinor and King Adrian were overjoyed by the arrival of their son, but with great trepidation she awaited the return of the Dowager Queen. The baby showed signs of inheriting her skin color, which Elinor knew she would not like, but at least it seems as though he will have Adrian's brown hair, so maybe will be acceptable at least. Her fears turned entirely groundless. Queen Matilda loved her little grandson and doted on him immensely even though she still treated Elinor very coolly with disdain. Still, her sharp tongue seemed to have been tempered some when she was sent away anyway, and she managed to at least be cordial with the new young queen. "Your position is more powerful now that you have produced an heir," Cornelia explains. Her Gaian father had been a noble, and so she had spent some time in the court, and her insight was invaluable to the young queen. "She can't treat you with outright disrespect anymore because there's no chance now that she can persuade her son to put you aside.""I wish I could find some way of making her like me." Elinor sighed."People like her aren't worth trying to win over," scoffed Adeline. "Give her no further thought, Elinor. A woman as bitter and twisted than her cannot live for long in this world. Her heart soon grow too cold to pump blood through her body.""Oh Addy, don't speak in such manners." Soft, sweet spoken Genoveva never liked Adeline harsh and sometimes colorful way of speaking."But true it is.""Maybe," said Cornelia, "But I've seen many very old bitter women."Elinor sighs, "I don't wish her dead. If she doesn't treat me with any outright disrespect anymore, and if she's good and king to Caspar, I don't hold her any ill will then.""Humph, you're kinder and more forgiving than me," Adeline said. "It's a good thing you are queen and I am not I suppose."Cornelia giggled. "Adeline, you'd have caused a Civil War by now."The young woman shrugs and laughs. "As I said, it's a good thing Elinor here is queen and not me."Elinor smiled down at her friends and looked down at her sleeping son. So sweet and peaceful did he look. A pang of sadness settled over her. I will have more children. You almost certainly will not be king. Maybe he'll return to the Isle of Flowers someday instead and marry a lovely woman there and be happy. The thought made the queen smile. After fully covering from pregnancy, Elinor went to her husband asked her to her go out and see the common people instead of being walled up in the castle grounds. The king reluctantly consented and sent her out with full protection. Elinor enjoyed seeing the cobbled streets and the wonderfully interesting sights and sounds of the city. She laughed with delight when a man played music while his pet monkey danced, and gave him three gold pieces which made his eyes widen in delight. She thoroughly enjoyed the marketplace, buying all sorts of food and trinkets to bring back to the castle. If people shared any prejudice for their exotic looking queen, they showed no outward signs of it. People bent over backwards to welcome her and seemed excited by the presence of royalty. When she returned to the castle, she kissed her little son good and for once fell asleep by her husband happily. I can do this, she tells herself before drifting off to sleep.
