Of the
Royal House of Lirlan, of the kingdom of Dellorne.
On
Princess Ria's 17th birthday, her parents decided that it was high time she found a husband. During her sister
Lara's unlikely courtship,
Lara and her now husband
Raoul had traveled to Numar to negotiate a change to a peace treaty with the Emperor,
Faiz. The treaty stated that
Lara had to marry a man form Numar, to ensure peace. However, once negotiated,
Faiz agreed to let
Lara marry
Raoul, if there would be other marriages between the nations.
Ria's older brother
Alaric married
Faiz's younger sister Alini. It was always thought that
Ria might marry the Emperor, but she was not so happy with the idea.
Faiz came to visit Dellorne for the festivities surrounding
Ria's birthday. At one of the grand balls,
Ria caught sight of a very handsome young man. When he asked her to dance, he introduced himself as Emperor
Faiz.
Ria was shocked to learn that the man she had resisted meeting and marrying was so handsome, and so kind.
Faiz stayed in Dellorne for another week, and by the time he had to leave, a betrothal was announced between him and
Ria and the couple were very much in love.
At the wedding celebration, which was held in Dellorne, at
Ria's request,
Alaric and Alini announced that they were expecting another child. Everyone was joyous at this news as well. After the wedding,
Ria, the new Empress of Numar, traveled with her new husband back to his Empire. There, there would be another ceremony, where she could be officially crowned.
Some weeks after the third royal wedding,
Princess Marina made a confession to her parents--she was pregnant. During
Ria's wedding, she had met with a young lord of Dellorne,
Percival of Barria. He was a bit older than her, and handsome, though known in court to be reckless. Lord
Percival was the father of this child.
Adelia and
Lucian were a bit overwhelmed by this, and hoping to stop a scandal, they ordered
Marina and
Percival to marry.
Marina was not happy with this arrangement at all. Her night with Lord
Percival was one she regretted, not only because of the baby, but because
Percival was not as charming as he had seemed when she first met him. However,
Marina knew that she had no choice but to marry, or else cause a scandal, so she and
Percival wed in a small ceremony.
Months later, both Alini and
Marina gave birth. Alini to a daughter. Her name was Aidalina, though they all called her
Aida. Her middle names honored Alini's and
Alaric's mothers respectively.
Marina had a son named
David. His middle names honored his father
Percival and his father's home province of Barria. Lord
Percival wanted his son to be named
Percival Jr, however,
Marina refused. Instead, she gave him a name meaning beloved, so that he would know she loved him.
David's father insisted on giving his son the middle names.
Marina had hoped that she might grow to love
Percival, but even after
David was born, nothing of the sort happened.
Percival was still a poor husband and wasn't suited to responsibility. He often went off riding or drinking with his friends, leaving his young wife and son behind at the castle.
Marina, meanwhile, spent more time with her childhood friend,
Duke Adam of
Trent. She began to wish that she had lied to her parents and had called
Adam the father of
David. That way, she could have married
Adam who was responsible and kind, rather than
Percival.
Just after
David's birth, Sarissa, announced that she had become betrothed to
Issac Luther, a common born man. This would have been another scandal, however,
Issac was, at 21, the youngest Commodore that the Navy of Dellorne had ever seen. This honor, and the promise that one day
Issac might become an Admiral, made the match a respectable, if not good, one. In Dellorne, which relies so much on the seas for trade, a man serving in the Navy is very well respected.
