Doll /
Dolly is a super cute nn. This. Must. Happen.
If
Polly is a nn for
Mary (
Mary -->
Molly -->
Polly) I don't see why
Dolly couldn't fit into that scenario. And getting really creative, you could use
Madison as the formal name and
Dolly (Dolley) as the nn after the famous American first lady. Or
Barbara, after the
Barbie doll?
But going the more conventional (although still fast and loose) route, how about Doll /
Dolly as a nn for:
Adolpha / Adolphine (I haven't a clue if that's a real name. I'm taking it from
Adolphus)
PandoraIdonyLeopoldine Isadora /
IsidoraBartolomea (Continental "t's" can sound like "d's")
Domenica /
DominiqueDesideria ("dez-i-DEHR-ee-uh")
SoledadCaridadTrinidadEudoxia -- I've always been weary of Doxie as a nn since it's an old slang term for a prostitute. But I've never thought about using
Dolly before and I'm really digging it. Thanks!

DollyIsoldeKendall (I will sacrifice my usual
Kendall as a boy's name preference in search of *the* formal name for Doll /
Dolly)
GwendolenDaria (I think this was
Dolly's real name in "
Anna Karenina")
DarinaOdile /
OdiliaOndine (French variant of
Undine)
OdetteMadeline /
Madeleine /
Magdalene
That was extremely fun. I hope one or two give you ideas. :-)
