I'm the opposite, I'm dying to have a Dolly/Doll for a daughter, but hate Dorothy and Dolores, Delphine and Dahlia are out, and I have NO clue!

Doll / Dolly

Doll / Dolly is a super cute nn. This. Must. Happen.

If Polly is a nn for Mary (Mary --> Molly --> Polly) I don't see why Dolly couldn't fit into that scenario. And getting really creative, you could use Madison as the formal name and Dolly (Dolley) as the nn after the famous American first lady. Or Barbara, after the Barbie doll?

But going the more conventional (although still fast and loose) route, how about Doll / Dolly as a nn for:

Adolpha / Adolphine (I haven't a clue if that's a real name. I'm taking it from Adolphus)
Pandora
Idony
Leopoldine
Isadora / Isidora
Bartolomea (Continental "t's" can sound like "d's")
Domenica / Dominique
Desideria ("dez-i-DEHR-ee-uh")
Soledad
Caridad
Trinidad
Eudoxia -- I've always been weary of Doxie as a nn since it's an old slang term for a prostitute. But I've never thought about using Dolly before and I'm really digging it. Thanks!

Demelza Holly --> Dolly
Deirdre Molly --> Dolly
Isolde
Kendall (I will sacrifice my usual Kendall as a boy's name preference in search of *the* formal name for Doll / Dolly)

I was thinking Dora or Dora-related names would work for Dolly, too. Dorothea, Theodora, Eudora, Isidora, just Dora...

Or what about Delilah? The sound difference between then is so slight, it could work. Or Delphine (especially since that one is also related to dolphin. Dolphin, Dolly? Yeah)

Delilah, nn Dolly, works on two levels. You're right about the sounds being so close. But also think of the biblical figure and how Dolly kind of winks at her character. It's subtle, but fun.

My best friend in junior high was called Dolly by all who knew her. Her given name was Carolyn. With this nn, I think anything goes--call her whatever you'd like, enjoy the nn. Back then, I thought it was such a cool nn, loved getting to use it.
