1.) This is our son, Wren Alphonse. Wren, say hi
You say: Hello! Pleased to meet you!
You think: I've heard of Wren as a girl's name, but not a boy's name. And Alphonse isn't really my cup of tea, but whatever floats your boat, I guess.
2.) This is my daughter, Minerva Mae.
You say: Minerva? Hi.
You think: Minerva as in Minerva McGonagall, and the Roman Goddess of wisdom, etc? I like Minerva, but I don't think I'd ever use it. I like Mae, too, but I don't necessarily like Minerva and Mae together.
3.) I'd like you to meet my son, Cadmus Luciano
You say: One more time, please? Cadmus Luciano?
You think: Cadmus makes me think of Cadmium, and Luciano makes me think of Lucius Malfoy. God, I really am a geek...
4.) This is our daughter, Remembrance Charlotte - everyone calls her Remy
You say: Hi Remy! How are you?
You think: Remembrance is quite a mouthful, isn't it? No wonder she goes by Remy. I actually like Remy better... I love Charlotte, though.
5.) This is my son, Vladimir Pavel. He's a little shy
You say: Happy to meet you, Vladimir.
You think: Does the family have Russian roots? Vladimir and Pavel are both strongly Russian. If they do have Russian roots, I wonder why the rest of the kids don't have Russian names.
6.) We'd like to present out daughter, Marguerite Emerald
You say: Marguerite? That's a pretty name.
You think: Isn't Marguerite typically Spanish? No, wait, that's Margarita. French, then? I prefer Margaret, but it's still pretty. I've never been much of a fan of names based on gems, though.
