[Games] Kingdom Congrats Sign-Up
This idea has been kicking around in my head since I had to abandon my rival empire's congrats. Since my compromise congrats is relatively small and low-maintenance for me, I've decided to do it. Instead of two kingdoms, there will be one, the kingdom of Bial. The first person to sign up will be the ruler and will set the tone for naming. All names of native-born Bialans will be in the language the first sign-up uses (or at least could be reasonably used in that language). They don't have to follow the naming style, just the language. If you don't really like names from that language, you can always sign up as some sort of immigrant or foreign diplomat. I'll provide a framework story, and you can elaborate on it however you want if you are so inclined. Please provide some sort of backstory for your couple with your sign-up. Though a fictional country, Bial is still part of this world (think Florin and Guilder from The Princess Bride) and historical events do affect it. Therefore, an exact start year is needed. Because I find it more fun to play around in the past, the kingdom can be set anywhere from medieval times to the late 1800s. Use the time frame as a basis for the names you choose and the family you describe, but since Bial is a fictional country you can certainly have a little wiggle room. You may sign up as:
Queen/King (first sign-up only!)
Prince/Princess (sibling of the monarch)
Duke/Duchess (will include other relatives)
Lower Noble (baron/baroness, lord/lady/etc.)
Wealthy/Influential Commoner (anyone wealthy, regardless of their profession will be here as well as all well-respected artists or writers, regardless of wealth)
The People (the general populace, anyone not rich enough or important enough to be in the previous category, from a comfortably-off merchant to a beggar.)
Foreign Diplomat
Immigrant (anyone from refugees with nothing to rich people who simply wanted to move to Bial).
If you are inclined to a military family, you can choose both military rank and which rank they fall in on the list, anywhere from Duke/Duchess to The People.
Same-sex couples are allowed, but to follow historical accuracy they must be kept quiet, so a cover-up marriage will be probably be necessary unless your couple has a good cover story. If your cover story is good enough to not need a cover-spouse, you will adopt orphans rather than have biological children. You can choose the degree of openness with the spouse if you have one.Hope none of that was too confusing, but if you have questions just ask!Sign-Up Form:

DH: Severin Ingolf (27)
DW: Wilhelmina Antje "Elma" (24)
Rank: Scholar (Severin), Dressmaker (Elma)Severin Lehrer and his wife Elma are fairly new additions to the court of Bial. Elma was an apprentice to Queen Hedwig's dressmaker, and when word arrived that her skills were considered adequate for her to replace one of Her Majesty's seamstresses (rumours say that the previous seamstress was included in a scandal with a footman, or a horseman, or even both!), Elma was more than excited at the news. Severin and Elma spent only one night to pack up their belongings before they were relocated to the royal court of Bial. Elma found the job difficult and not as glamorous as she expected it to be (she doubted, for instance, that Queen Hedwig even knew of her existence), but she was happy in her new job, and Severin could spend many of his hours studying and reading, much to his enjoyment.Severin and Elma had been married for one year, so far childless. Both were deeply in love with each other (a relief, since Elma had been pressured to marry, and 23 was considered a bit late in her family), and they had settled into marriage life well. While Elma was a bubbly, cheerful young woman, Severin was a quiet, intelligent foil to her, and the two suited each other almost perfectly.

Dgf: Ilona Dalia Rozalija Kotryna, Queen Ilona VI of Hualou* (19)
Rank: Immigrant/The PeopleFrom birth, it was known that Ilona would be the Crown Princess. But the people of Lithuania were not happy with their Regent's choice and, upon the day she was crowned, revolted. Ilona's parents were killed and she was forced to flee Hualou with her faithful bodyguard/Lady-in-Waiting Morta. They escaped to Bali and are hiding amongst the commoners.Ilona and Morta, with the meager money that had left over from their escape, opened up a small dress shop where Ilona puts her excellent sewing skills to good use. Ilona and Morta are thought to be cousins by those around them, and, though they are third cousins, they are also deeply in love. Ilona's parents never knew about their daughter's 'special friend', since she thought it would break their heart, and Morta has barely had contact with her parents since she was eight.Ilona and Morta get by on the meager amount of money they earn, though Ilona hopes to one day return to her beloved Hualou and be on the throne again.
*Hualou - A small country I invented. It uses Lithuanian as it's main language, though they also have some Polish and Russian mixed in. It borders on Lithuania, Poland and Belarus.

LN: Bergfalk
DH: Duke Heinrich Johann Siegmund Jorg (27)
DW: Duchess Eleonore Josefine Liesel (19)
Rank: Duke/DuchessHeinrich Bergfalk is a distant relative of King Walter in that their great-grandfathers were brothers. The two sides of the family had a falling out many years ago and the Bergfalk's and the Kaarmann's have been feuding for near on a century now, though to be honest, no one can really remember the reason why. Today however, the two feuding families have been brought closer than ever with the marriage of Duke Heinrich to Lady Eleonore, younger sister of Queen Hedwig! When it was known that King Wolfgang had choosen their father, his trusted military adviser, to provide a wife for the future king Eleonore had hoped that her father would choose her. Eleonore, though Hedwig's younger sister, was well known to be the more beautiful and charming of the two sisters. Not only that, but she was secretly already in love with Walter whom she'd known since childhood. However, her father decreed that it was only fair that the elder sister be Queen, thus Hedwig married the man Eleonore loved... Eleonore has been married to Duke Heinrich in hope that he and King Walter being married to sisters whom are very close to each other would finally end the fued between the Bergfalk's and the Kaarmann's. Eleonore is now living in Heinrich's estate near the border of Bial and Switzerland. Eleonore is still getting to know her new husband and fufils her role as the dutiful wife as is expected of her, but truthfully she dislikes Heinrich strongly and is still very much in love with her brother-in-law, the King.

I'm glad :) Only question that remains is whether King Walter was disappointed when Hedwig was the sister choosen? Or is Eleonore's love for Walter unrequited?

King Walter was extremely disappointed that Hedwig was chosen over Eleonore. However Walters duty has King once again has caused him heartache and he looks for Elenore in Hedwig. Walter does not like Eleonores husband so he keeps trying to convince Hedwig to take Eleonore has a lady in waiting. Perhaps Hedwig suspects the feelings the two have for each other
vote up1
Because Hedwig & Eleonore are close I would say that it is likely that Hedwig is pretty sure she knows that her sister and her husband are in love, but duty is duty... Eleonore may end up spending a lot of time at the royal palace 'visiting' her sister however as she does not like her husband so would happily grasp the oppurtunity to be away as often as possible.

Note to all royal siblingsWe need to work out our family dynamic for the plots. This is what I've gathered from sign-ups:Walter: oldest, ruler, focused on being the best ruler for Bial in every way. Does his duty in all ways, even in marriage. Affectionate towards sisters, sometimes locks horns with headstrong younger brother.Magdalena: second child, intelligent and well-educated, talented in languages and music. Betrothed and un-betrothed several times in her childhood and teenage years, she marries for love but is still active in Bialan current events. Though observant at court, can be very short sighted when it comes to her family, especially her younger siblings. Family is important to her, and she adores her brothers and sister, though younger sister feels overshadowed.Joseph: third child, raised fairly sheltered in case something should happen to Walter. Married younger than his parents would have wanted to a girl he has been long engaged to. Unclear whether he married for love or politics or both. Headstrong, sometimes butts heads with older brother.Adelheid: youngest, talented archer and rider, feels constantly overshadowed by older sister especially, takes pride in outdoing any older sibling, proving her worth. Doesn't feel close to any siblings or even her parents. Speaks perfect French, which led to her being offered as a bride to the Dauphin of France to settle relations between them. Though her family didn't want her to marry so young, King Louis insisted and she went to France, where she was extremely disappointed in her foolish and ugly new husband but accepted him as her lot in life. Please edit your parts here as you see fit. We also need to decide where our mother was from and what her backstory was. R.R. gave her first name as Elizabeth, so are we going with English?

Joseph + note(We could make Joseph and Magdalena twins and bump Maria Elisabeth's age up a little bit if you feel he's is too young. I was going with ages that would have been common in the time period, though I admit I erred on the side of the 16th and 17th centuries, which I'm more familiar with than the 18th. I originally had Joseph as 20, but you posted Magdalena before I did and I felt that Joseph fit better after her. Let me know!)
Joseph is an energetic and headstrong young man. He is a prominent personality at Court, being more outgoing and less burdened by duty than his brother the King. He wears fine clothing, and dances and rides excellently. He is a very good archer, and also skilled with a sword. He has dark hair and clear gray eyes, and is a bit of heart-throb among the young ladies at Court. His marriage to Maria Elisabeth trampled on many dreams and aspirations. Intelligent like his sister Magdalena, Joseph works hard at his studies and favors studies of Latin, mathematics, and astronomy. He is marginally fluent in similar languages to his siblings, but excels in Latin and does well enough in French, especially after Adelheid began to help him practice. He also enjoys theology, and there was some talk of him joining the clergy before his official engagement to Maria Elisabeth.Joseph, though friendly and popular, does not allow many people to become very close to him. He is close to his mother, the Dowager Queen, and to his siblings, especially his older brother, to whom he is very loyal despite their brotherly rivalry.

I didn't notice Elizabeth at the end of E.Tracy's post, and yes I intended for one parent to still be alive. I'm totally fine with playing with historical facts, and I really like RowenaRavenclaw's story. Sounds like poor Adelheid, like most teenage girls, is trying very hard not to be forgotten and dismissed. As for Magdalena, she has a rebellious streak which made it important for her to go her own way and do what was good for her rather than just what was good for Bial. She was doted upon by her parents and older brother when she was born because, with such a large gap between her and her brother, they assumed they would have no more children, at least not for a while. She and Walter have always had a close relationship despite their age difference, and the two value one another's advice and companionship. The two have always understood one another.Magdalena was excited when Adelheid was born as she had wanted a sister and the two were friends as children, but as they grew older they grew apart. Adelheid thought Magdalena was selfish for not thinking of her duty to Bial first the way she and Walter did, while Magdalena found it hard to stop treating Adelheid like a baby. This, along with the fights typical between teenage sisters, only worsened Adelheid's feelings of rejction. As for Joseph, he is the type who has never really let anyone be really close to him. Everyone jokes that they are so close in age he's practically Magdalena's twin, but really the two have never had the type of sibling bond that she and Walter or even she and Adelheid had as children.

AdelheidNOTE(s):
1. Actually, E. Tracy mentioned the name Elizabeth as the Queen Dowager at the end of her first post (may have been added when she edited). According to her, our parents were King Wolfgang Wilhelm Karl Friedrich Kaarmann and Queen Elizabeth Sophia Louise. Obviously, the Queen's names are fairly common and universal, but if everyone agrees, then an English mother seems like a good bet. Also, I referred to her as Queen Dowager because of your sign-up, britto08, because you said, "Though Walter was hesitant about marrying [Magdalena] to nobility rather than royalty, her mother talked him into it after seeing how much her daughter loved Taddeo." This statement implies that the siblings' mother is still alive, hence Queen Dowager.2. I hope it was alright that I had Adelheid marry the Dauphin of France; I know you wanted to play with historical facts and events, so I hope I didn't throw a wrench in any plans of yours, britto08.Anyways, back to Adelheid. I think you’ve pretty accurately summarized what I put in my sign-up post and I like what E. Tracy has added about Walter and Adelheid being most alike (and therefore distant). I also think Adelheid was always jealous of the relationship between Walter and Magdalena and tried to be closer to Joseph, but never managed to cultivate the doting relationship that their elder siblings had. Please, also keep in mind that Adelheid is still a teenage girl and may grow out of these jealousies…or they may fester as she grows more and more unhappy in the French court. Who knows? ;)

WalterWalter is the eldest sibling and growing up he felt a need to protect his younger siblings, though he was not always able to. Walter spent most of his childhood in studies and training outdoors. He spent more time with his father then his siblings though he would rather have spent more time playing he understood from an early age that he was born to serve the kingdom of Bial.
Walter & Magdalena have an excellent relationship. He deeply loves his little sister and understood her need for love rather then duty. He likes to keep her company and have her advise on arts, music, and philosophy. Walter & Joseph have they very common brother relationship. Joseph is ambitious and headstrong which can unnerve Walter. Walter tries to keep up with Joseph in a friendly sibling rivalry while showing him that having the power is not necessarily fun. Walter keeps Joseph close and greatly appreciates his advice.Walter & Adelheid have a somewhat strained relation. Walter finds his youngest sister to be most like him proud and dutiful. Adelheid has a feisty spirit and has almost even beaten Walter in riding. Walter greatly sympathizes with his sisters worries and strains in being in a duty bound marriage. Walter perhaps overlooks Adelheid's true feelings because she is so much like him in accepting duty and never questioning it.Would we like to have a family tree for reference? Elizabeth is fairly common royal name we can go with English If everyone likes

DW: Adelheid Sophia Margarete Maria (née Kaarmann) Bonfils, Princess Adelaïde, Dauphine of France (15)
Rank: Princess and Prince (sister and brother-in-law to the King)
Princess Adelheid is the fourth-born of the Kaarmann Royal Family and second princess. Adelheid has always felt as though she were the “forgotten” princess. After all, everyone was always saying how “perfect” Magdalena was; dignitaries from all over the world were impressed at how well Magdalena spoke – in every possible language! And, although Adelheid spoke perfect French, her tongue could never quite form the correct sounds that comprised the other foreign languages that the tutors respectively spoke. Adelheid was also inferior to her sister when asked to play music or dance; Adelheid just seemed to be born clumsy. Even her stitching was incomparable to Magdalena’s! Adelheid’s stitching was adequate; Magdalena’s was breath-taking. However, Adelheid did manage to outdo her sister when it came to outdoor pursuits – Adelheid was an excellent rider and archer. There were some days when she would even manage to trounce her brother Joseph at archery; Adelheid has yet to trounce her brother Walter, although she came within a hair’s-breadth of winning once. And, as it turns out, Adelheid’s excellent French has become useful! Due to strains between the Bialan and French courts, Princess Adelheid was sent as a “peace offering”/bride to the Dauphin. King Walter, Queen Hedwig, and Queen Dowager Elizabeth tried to negotiate a wedding that would take place when Adelheid turned eighteen, but King Louis of France wouldn’t hear of it! The timing was either now or never! So, Adelheid traveled to France, reminding herself that she’d never been close with any of her siblings or either of her parents, so missing them would be foolish. Besides, Adelheid was finally going to outdo her sister – she would eventually be Queen of France, while Magdalena would only ever be a lady. When Adelheid arrived at the French court, she found her husband to be foppish and quite ugly, with an odd sense of humor. And, he was old! But, Adelheid reminded herself that she had a duty as a Princess of Bial and, only months after her arrival, the Dauphin and Dauphine were wed.

They have only recently been married, though they have been engaged since Maria Elisabeth's thirteenth birthday and betrothed since childhood, since a foreign royal marriage was not practical for the second son of the king. Walter and Joseph have at times butted heads, since Joseph is perhaps a bit more headstrong than his regnant brother might like.

Rank: PrincessAs daughter to the king and queen of Bial, Magdalena was given much more freedom than most girls of her time, even most princesses. Coming after a firstborn brother, Her parents were able to be simply happy at her birth and love her with no complicated feelings about needing an heir. Her parents both believed girls should be educated, especially princesses who may be needed to charm foreign dignitaries, so she was given a first-rate education, using some of the same tutors as her brother and studying all the same subjects, as well as music and dance and other womanly pursuits. She excelled in languages, especially Italian, and was sent often to the Venetian court. That was where she met Taddeo. After her first trip there at sixteen she knew that she would marry him. They were perfect for one another and were very much in love, but Magdalena did not want to marry so young, nor did her parents want her to marry until she was eighteen. There was another thing: Taddeo was not royalty, but the son of a powerful and well-known duke. He was certain that her brother, now her father had died, would never agree, but Magdalena had no doubts. She had always been her brother's "mäuslein," little mouse, his term of endearment for her. Like her parents, he would do anything for her that would make her happy. And she was right. Though Walter was hesitant about marrying her to nobility rather than royalty, her mother talked him into it after seeing how much her daughter loved Taddeo. They married a few weeks after Magdalena's eighteenth birthday, and have settled in a beautiful estate near the Bialan-Venetian border, a gift from her brother. They have settled in nicely and are happy awaiting the start of their family.

You forgot to set a time period...I need a date for the prompts. I can't tell from your story what time period you're thinking of.

SorryI was thinking of around 1737. I was going with the German Language theme and the soldier king Friedrich Wilhelm I died in 1740 but since this is Bial I figure a couple years earlier would be ok. Is that ok? I always like the time periods to be in the past.

Game Start Year: 1736That's perfect! I prefer time periods in the past too. How about we make Bial a small kingdom near Switzerland, bordering the Austrian Hapsburg empire but similarly independant and with ties to Italian countries. It could border Switzerland, Venice, and the empire. I think the conflict with trying to keep from being taken over by the Holy Roman Empire could make some interesting plot points.
