[Opinions] Tamar
What do you think of the name Tamar? How do you pronounce it? Personally, I prefer the pronunciation TAH-mar rather than TAY-mar. Does the fact that it's a Biblical name deter you from it? Do you think it's usable as a first name or should it be a middle name only?
Combos?
Here are some I've thought of off the top of my head. Out of these I like Tamar Celeste the best. I think it has a nice flow.
Tamar Rosalind
Tamar Celeste
Tamar Rosemary
Tamar Lucasta
Tamar Winifred

I like Tamar, but wouldn't use it. I'd match it with something less frilly than the mns you suggest.
I say TAMah, and I like it better than Tamara or Tamsin. But I think of it as a river, not a biblical reference. Some biblical names are good, some are so-so, some are dreadful and some are associated with the fanatical fringe and therefore distasteful to me.
I liked the flow of Tamar Celeste, but I don't enjoy Celeste (Queen of the Elephants and my friend's cat) so keeping a good rhythm we could consider Tamar Louise, Tamar Suzanne, Tamar Eleanor, Tamar Clare, Tamar Angela. Or Tamar Susannah, Tamar Talitha or from the other end of the Bible, Tamar Christine. I didn't like an R- name following Tamar, so that cuts out Rebecca as well as Rosalind and Rosemary.

Ooh, I like Tamar Eleanor, Tamar Claire (like this spelling) and Tamar Susannah. :) Those are all really nice!
Thanks. :)
I like Tamar well enough, but where I find it sturdy and ordinary, I love Tamara which I find luminous. Yeah, I know a lot of people view Tamara as dated and maybe it is with the nn Tammy which I don't care for at all. I'd call her Tamara.
BTW, I pronounce Tamar as tah-MAR. I don't know if that's correct or not. I've never known anyone by the name. I've only heard of it in connection to the Bible.
Of your combos, I also like Tamar Celeste the best.

I like the name alot actually. I think I prefer it as a middle name but only because I really like frilly names.
my current fave combo with the name is Augustinia Tamar
*edit* I read the other posts and do agree that it is sort of masculine. It remids me of Lamar.

Oh dear, a boy Tamar. Haha. Well, it does have a masculine air to it, but I think that is part of the reason why I'm drawn to it for a girl, even though I don't normally like boy names on girls.
It does have quite a masculine sound. Oddly enough, I never really thought about that before. Paired with a frillier name, I think it's okay though. :)
