I hope this post doesn't start anything, but I've noticed that a lot of people say, "I like (insert long name here), but I don't want to use any nicknames!" Why? Is there something awful about nicknames that I'm just not grasping? When I was growing up, almost everyone had one: an Alexandra would be Alex or Lexi, a Timothy would be Tim, a Katherine would be Kate or Katie. That's just the way things were. They would be called by their full names, too, but often times it was easier to use a shortened version. Is there something wrong with this?
I know it all boils down to personal preference, but I think it's interesting how many people here say they flat-out don't care for nicknames. I think a lot of nicknames are cute, so I guess I'm in the minority. :P
