[Opinions] Ignatius (ETA Millicent)
I read the other day that Cate Blanchett had named her third son Ignatius and was really disappointed. I've adored her names in the past (Dashiell is a favourite and I admire Roman's strength) but something really irked me about Ignatius.
Well, to get to my point - today I read something that said we was going to go by Iggy and all of a sudden I thought - wow, that's wonderful. So what do you think? Ignatius nn Iggy? I have absolutely no middle name ideas (and trust me folks, I've been trying) so suggestions would be much appreciated. TIA!
Edited to add: WDYTO Millicent? It's one of those names that I've always loathed but I'm not totally sure that I hate it anymore. I think that I might actually quite like it... Gach, I can never make up my mind.

I like Ignatius. May I also interest you in the Spanish version, Ignacio? I think it has a similar charm, while being a bit softer-sounding (which I like).
Iggy is a cute nn for a child. I think it'd fit less well on an adult, but part of the nice thing about nn is that they can easily be changed as people grow.
Ignatius Arthur
Ignatius Calvin
Ignatius Clark
Ignatius Cole
Ignatius Grant
Hmm, this is a tricky name for mns.
As for Millicent, it's one of those tricky names that I wish I liked, but don't quite (yet). It has a very distinct and appealing sound, but I have trouble seeing it used in real life. I think I could be won over, though, by meeting a cute little Millicent or by hearing a good combo with it.

I love Millicent (nn Milly/Millie). It did take a while for this one to grow on me, though. ;)
I like Ignatius, but not the nickname Iggy.
Ignatius Barnaby
Ignatius Byron
Ignatius Henrik
Ignatius Henry
Ignatius Leopold
Ignatius Lorne
Ignatius Martin
Ignatius Miles
Ignatius Per
Ignatius Reid
Ignatius Rohan
Ignatius Rupert
Ignatius Walter
Ignatius Willem
Ignatius William

I love Ignatius. It used to be my number four. It's always in my top 20 or so. I like nn Iggy, I know lots of people hate it.
My combo (IIRC) was Ignatius Mount, Mount being my mother's maiden name. It is a pain in the butt, isn't it? I like Ignatius Vaughn rather well.

I rather like Ignatius, and Iggy makes it a bit more accessible. It is a difficult name to find a satisfactory mn for!
Ignatius Armand
Ignatius Josepe
Ignatius Isaiah
Ignatius Sebastian
I absolutely adore Millicent, esp with the nn Millie. The more I hear it the less old lady, more little girl it sounds. Have you considered Melisande?

I love Millicent
its very old-fashioned and charming I think and could definatley be made fashionable by someone young in my opinion.
As for Ignatius I completley agree with you. On its own it sounds like ancient stone or something but Iggy is fantastic! very cute.
Middle names are hard, I think Cate's son's middle name is Martin, probably good to keep it simple with a fn like Ignatius. I do sort of like the name Casimer with it though.

I *adore* Ignatius but not so much the nn Iggy. But thats just me (I hate nn's in general)
I think Cate Blanchett's son is Ignatius Martin, and I think you need a hard n/m sound on the end to balance out the ~us. Which gets a bit tricky if we don't want to descend into the trendies.
So how about:
Ignatius William
Ignatius Quinn
Ignatius Vaughn
Ignatius Alexander (too long?)
Ignatius Michael
Ignatius Henry
I'm running dry...I might edit some more in later.
I really want to say Ignatius Simon, but it runs quite awfully.

I adore the name Ignatius. Iggy is a cute nn, but I feel almost insulted on Ignatius' behalf that he's only being used as a vehicle for the nn Iggy.
Seriously, I can come up with some Ignatius combos. But it also occurs to me that there might be some other formal names that you like better for the nn Iggy:
Sigmund / Sigismund
Siegfried
Gregory
Digby
Padraig ("PAH-drig")
Gideon
Diego
Inigo (In the Spanish pronunciation, it doesn't contain the "ig" sound. But it is a form of Ignatius so I think you could carry it off. Or, just use the English pr., "IN-i-go.")
Well, just a thought.

There is an appeal to Inigo to me but I always look at it and think oh, 'Indigo'. Not a bad thing really but not a name I'd use for my son!
I do like Gideon but not with nn Iggy - it stands just find by itself.
I'm not too sure about the others though. Sigmund is OK but I prefer Sigrid (f).
The thing with Ignatius "Iggy" is that I really don't think that Ignatius works alone as a name - it seems far too pompous. Iggy softens it and makes it quirky IMO.
