[Opinions] Avellana and Blessing
I've started doing Spanish lessons once a week, and our teacher insists that we all use Spanish names. So she translated nearly everyone's names into Spanish. Those who couldn't be translated were given other Spanish names (Sian was given Sara). My name (Hazel) is one that doesn't have a Spanish name so she says I could be Avellana which she says means Hazelnut. I don't really like it and I keep getting tongue tied when I say it. I think it's pronounced a bit like AH-feh-yan-a, but I may be wrong. :p WDYT?
(Sorry this is getting quite long!!)
Also, today i was in the library and I heard a woman whisper shouting (if you know what I mean) "Blessing, come here right now". I thought poor girl, what a horrible name! EVEN WORSE!! Blessing turned out to be a boy!!!!!!!!!! I think he was African. WDYT?

I hate Blessing, but I think it's equally bad on a boy or a girl.
Avellana is very pretty. It's interesting, people always talk about picking names for Spanish or French class, but I've never had a French name. (I've been taking classes since first grade.) And since I usually go by my last name (which, due to Ellis Island, sounds extremely English), it sounds very awkward in French.

Ahhh poor kid!
Blessing... what an awful name lol!!! And I do think Avellana is pretty, but I see where you're coming from with the who pronounciation thing. My name (Aileen) is gaelic, and definately doesn't have a spanish equivelant. I chose the name Estella just because it's pretty, but it isn't a name I personally like THAT much.

I think Blessing is fine for both genders [m]
I wouldn't use it personally though.

Avellana is quite pretty! I can understand you getting tongue tied about it though! I think it would be more like ah-beh-YAH-nah. V's and B's are pronounced pretty much the same in Spanish, like a b but you don't close your lips all the way. The accent is nearly always on the second to last syllable. Also, in some dialects, ll is pronounced like a j, in which case it would be ah-beh-JAH-nah.
I think Blessing for a girl is kinds cute, but for a boy.... Unless it's some African name that just sounds like Blessing, that's unfortunate.
