I'm very proud of my name. This is the original version of all Jacob/James in the world.
Also spelt Yaacov.Yaacov Agam is an Israeli painter and stage designer.
To the person who posted before me, you read Ya'akov Yah-ah-kohv because of the apostrophe. Yaakov is read Yah-kohv, and Yah-ah-kohv only when spelled Ya'akov. It's not because you're Sefardi. It's not like Isaac is read EE-sah-ahc in Spanish or Ladino. It's just Ee-sahc, just like Yaakov.
Well, my name is Jacqueline, Ya'akova in Hebbrew. I pronounce it Yah-ah-koh-va, and thus I would pronounce Ya'akov Yah-ah-kov. Maybe it's because I'm of Sephardi descent, and my family anyways, reads Hebrew with that Spanish or Ladino accent.
Pronounced yah-ah-kohv.
MissClaire, I have known many Yaakovs and have never heard it pronounced that way. In my experience Yaakov has always been pronounced Ya-cove.
