Meaning & History
An obscure biblical name possibly derived from Hebrew יכל (yakol) meaning "to be able, to prevail". It is mentioned only in Proverbs 30:1, in which it is apparently the name of a person to whom Agur's words are addressed. Early interpreters considered Ucal and the other names the verse mentions (Agur and Ithiel) to be proper names; others believe they are symbolic for descriptive characters.
