Cuneiform LÚ, (or lú as rendered in some texts) is found as a Sumerogram in the Epic of Gilgamesh (an Epic poem from ancient Mesopotamia). It also has a common usage in the 1350 BC Amarna letters as the Sumerogram for "man".Cuneiform was a writing system that was used to write several languages of the Ancient Near East from the early Bronze Age until the beginning of the Common Era. It is the earliest known writing system and was originally developed to write the Sumerian language of southern Mesopotamia (modern Iraq).
Lú, (also Lug, Lleu, Lugh, Lúg, Lúgh), is a formal name that, as a classic, can stand its own as a given name. Although a derivative of a masculine name, it makes a great unisex name, though Lugh and its other versions are best suited / remained as a male name. I find this succinct two-letter name quite charming, as Lú (with its acute accent) is similar in spelling to Lù (with its grave accent), which I personally prefer as a transliteration for the classic Burmese unisex name လူ (LOO) "person, human". Two names with a very rich history. Lù is my favourite name for a boy, and Lú among my most favourite for either a girl and a boy.
Lú is also the Irish name of County Louth, Ireland, named after [[Lugh]].
