So precious and pretty. I think it's still usable because, despite being a name from a fairy tale, it's reasonably normal sounding, not like Rumpelstiltkskin. I wouldn't be weirded out if I met a Gretel.
Gretel Beer (born Margaret Weidenfeld; 1921 – 2010) was an Austrian-born English author of cooking books and travel reports. She also served as a cookery writer for The Daily Telegraph and Daily Express newspapers.
Gretel Bergmann (1914-2017) was a German track and field athlete. The Nazis banned her from competing in the 1936 Summer Olympics because she was Jewish. She later emigrated to the United States to escape anti-Semitism in Germany.
Reminds me of Hansel and Gretel. I think this name should be just as popular as Greta because they are virtually the same name, just with a more feminine spin. Cute.
The youngest of the von Trapp children in Sound of Music was called this, not sure how it was spelled there though.

Gretl (note spelling variation) was used as the name of the youngest von Trapp daughter in the movie "The Sound of Music". Gretl's character represented the real youngest daughter, who was named Martina.
