In my case it was for my dad. His name was Glen, my mother said she was leaving the hospital with a Glen if she had to put DA for daddy on the end of the name.

Glenda Adams (née Felton; 1939 – 2007) was an Australian novelist and short story writer, probably best known as the winner of the 1987 Miles Franklin Award for Dancing on Coral. She was a teacher of creative writing, and helped develop writing programs.
I don't think it's likely that Glenda was originally created from the Welsh words. I think it was created as a conscious or unconscious blend of names like Glenna and Brenda and was reinterpreted with the Welsh meaning later. There is no particular connection with Wales found with the earliest examples in either the UK or USA censuses. The earliest sure example in the UK census is Glenda Day, born 1864 in Somerset. The earliest Welsh example is Glenda Dorren Parry, born 1910 in Monmouthshire. The earliest possible Glenda in the USA census is Glenda Boswell of Indiana, born 1856, listed as "Glendy" in the 1860 census and "Glenda" in the 1870 census. [noted -ed]
Glenda is not the worst name I’ve ever heard (it’s hard to be uglier then Agatha) but, I think Glinda is better. Who wouldn’t want to name their daughter after a beautiful, wise, and powerful sorceress?

I actually think that this is really cute and the meaning is lovely! I hope it will make a comeback.

Glenda Elisabeth Gray is a South African physician and scientist specializing in the care of children and in HIV medicine and was awarded South Africa's highest honor, the Order of Mapungubwe.
The name means pure, clean and good. How could someone say it was ugly and outdated? I happen to like my name, and you would to if you knew me. See, people associate a name with the last person they knew with the name.
The only Glenda I've ever known was named after her father, Glen. I don't like this name much, because it reminds me of the famously awful movie about cross-dressing by the famously awful director Ed Wood called "Glen or Glenda?"
It's true that in the Wizard of Oz it was Glinda, but 1) I can't find it here and 2) If you pronounce it the difference is very small. Sorry for my English:)
