I was very surprised to learn that this is considered an old man's name in the United States. In the UK it is an uncommon name without much association, but it is increasingly popular as a baby name. Being a teenager myself my best mate is called Frank and he was never bullied or made fun of for having an "old" or "common" name.

The current version of this entry contains the following sentence:"The Franks settled in the regions now called France and the Netherlands in the 3rd and 4th century."If I may, it is a tad reductionist (for lack of a better term) to mention only France and the Netherlands. Belgium should be included as well, since it is a sizeable country *between* France and the Netherlands that was also once part of the Franks' territory. The latter also applies to Luxembourg in its entirety, but since that is a significantly smaller country, I understand if it would be too cumbersome or too nitpicky to include it in the description. But Belgium should definitely be in there, even if only because the sentence quoted above could be interpreted to mean that the Franks for some reason never settled in the vast amounts of land between the modern countries of France and the Netherlands. Such an interpretation is quite incorrect, and so it would be a good idea to try and avoid it from happening (by including Belgium). [noted -ed]
Frank is an old man's name. It should be left in the past, along with Fred and Barney.

I prefer Frank as a legal name rather than nickname for Franklin as it's very common to do so. In my opinion, this is a handsome name that fits men of all ages. It's just too associated with the negative personality.

Frank White Meacham (May 31, 1856 – December 22, 1909) was an American composer and arranger of Tin Pan Alley.Meacham was born in Brooklyn, New York. His most famous work is American Patrol (1885), a popular march. Written originally for piano, it was then arranged for wind band and published by Carl Fischer in 1891. It was later arranged for Glenn Miller's swing band by Jerry Gray, and was also arranged by composer Morton Gould.
Another namesake (one of my heroes)-- famous explorer with Shackleton on mission in Antarctica, excellent author/chronicler of events of that miraculous expedition-- Frank Arthur Worsley.
This name is ok but it seems too common like Bob or Robert. The name Franny, a good nickname for it, or Francisco, which is similar, are much better in my opinion.

The derivation of Frank from a weapon can be questioned. The alternative etymology (supported by Grimms Deutsches Wörterbuch) is a derivation from the Germanic word Frank "free" (related to English frank "outspoken").
I think Frank is a cute name! Not only because Frank Zhang is one of my fave characters in Heroes of Olympus, I think it has that sharp sound when you say it and it feels good.

Frank is a name that I personally like as it is a shorter and more straight forward variation to the name Francis. Although, I do love Francis as a first name as well.

I'm not too fond of the name myself but I don't think it's a bad name. Not really getting the hate for it or why some people think someone would be bullied for having this name. If I was a boy I would rather my name be Frank than Aden, Kaden, Brayden, and all those other trendy childish boy names you hear today.
Frank, hmm... I like the short and precise sound that rings clearly in my ears. It is, in my opinion, a name that could have the potential for regaining some momentum in the upcoming decade or two from now.

To me, Frank is an old man's name and sounds hard and ugly, but Frankie might be cute for certain girls or a really young boy, say around 2-6 years old.
An ugly old man name. Please spare your child from this awful name, even if it is a family name your son won't like or want it.

This was my old bulldog's name. I don't think it would be a bad name on a person though. It would take a somewhat masculine guy to pull it off, but it's definitely a charming classic!

Not a short name for Francis or Francois, it stands on its own and is much older. Solid, forthright, noble, germanic derived name from the tribes of Frankenland, Frankfurt etc., the ford in the river where the Frankish people traded and crossed, English Franconia so latinized, = freedom free, exemption, right, privilege, thus the anglo saxon meaning of Candid lent the name to the western part of the merovengian empire, after the fall of roman Gaul, modern France. Ultimately from the shape of the spear head, their signature weapon noted by the romans. I bear it proudly.
Frank is an awesome name. I like Frank as a name on its own and it sounds masculine. Frank is used in fiction a lot (Frank Drebbin from Naked Gun, Frank Spencer from Some Mother Do 'Ave Em, Private Frank Pike from Dad's Army) and it isn't hard to see why. Would like to see a young Frank one day (Most I know are at least 60).

I love this name. We gave our 4th son this name and haven't regretted it. We've only come to love it more. He's two now and I love that it's uncommon, yet everyone has heard of it and knows how to spell it. We call him Frankie as well.
I can't stand this name. It sounds nasty and makes me think of a hotdog, on top of all that I just can't picture it on a child. It makes me think of an 80 year old grandfather with a walking stick!

Grandma's middle name was Frances and her brother's first name was Francis (he went by franny) he named his first son eugene francis which happens to be a fave cousin of mine. I gave birth to twins and named one Francis Eugene and the other Dahlton Edward. I want my boy to go by Frankie as a kid and Frank as an adult. It is so strong and versatile! I hope he loves his name, I have been trying to find out how men named Frank feel about their name. Any Franks out there I would love to hear your opinions.

Frank is my son's middle name. We chose it in honor of his grandfather, no other reason. I hear the name 'Frankie' more often than 'Frank,' and usually the bearer of that name has a Brooklyn accent. Love it!
Frank was my Grandfather's first name and is my brothers middle name. While some may say it's old fashioned, if I have a son I wouldn't hesitate to give him this name. I think it's a strong name, that unlike some of these strange 'modern' names will suit as well when they are an adult as a child, (though as a child would probably call him Frankie more often than not).
My father, the son of Italian immigrants, was named Francesco at birth, but has gone by Frank since he was a kid. I know a lot of people consider the name 'middle aged', but I think it's adorable. It reminds me of my father, one of the sweetest and most hardworking men I've ever met. My sister named her son Frank after our dad in 2007, but I would've probably given the name to my first son if she hadn't beat me to it. My nephew goes by Frankie, which could be one of the cutest nicknames ever :) and when the time comes, he'll have a mature and classic name to go by, unlike many of his peers. I think this name is definitely due for a revival!
I see absolutely nothing wrong with naming your little boy Frank, or Franklin, or Francis. I personally would really respect a parent who chose to give their son a name like this, especially in modern times with all these ridiculous and irritating names being given to children. Frankie makes an adorable nickname, too! It's really quite sad how all of these classic names have been dropping lower and lower in the charts. If you're considering naming your son Frank/Franklin/Francis, I say go for it! :)
I really like this name. It sounds very dignified and intelligent. I have a friend with this name who is around my age. I've known a number of other young guys named Frank, so I don't see it as old-fashioned at all. And I think Frank is better as a full name than as a nickname; if anything it's long been more common than Francis.

"So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright" is a song by Simon and Garfunkel. It appeared on their album Bridge Over Troubled Water (released in 1970)--very fitting, since the song is a veiled goodbye to Art Garfunkel from Paul Simon, and Bridge Over Troubled Water was their final album of new material.

Frank is in the same family as names such as Henry, Frederick, and George. All classy and sophisticated names in my opinion. I'm tired of the fluffy names that have been so popular the past 5-8 years. It would be refreshing to see baby boys with good strong names.
