Very stately but fancy, might be okay down in Dixie but I'd rather have it for a pet's name... cute for a large friendly dog.

Love, love, love this name and its meaning. In today's uncivil and mean spirited world he would have to go by Beau or he might not survive middle school. Too bad. It is a dignified stately name with weight to it. Perfection! I really dislike it when I hear people have given this name to a dog. Ew.

In America, this is generally used in honor of confederate general P. G. T. Beauregard, who was a member of Louisiana's Cajun community. If I remember correctly, I think he is where Ashley and Melanie got the name of their son in Gone with the Wind.
The love interest in the movie "Auntie Mame" (starring Rosalind Russell) is named "Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside," played by actor, Forrest Tucker. In the movie-musical "Mame," based on the same source material (starring Lucille Ball as Mame), Beauregard is played by Robert Preston.

Bo Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard's full name was Beauregard.

It's a great name, but for modern times it's a bit much.
This would make an excellent name for a cat, but I think an (American) child would most likely be mocked for such a flamboyant name. Great meaning, though.

I think the meaning "beautiful outlook" is the best meaning to have for a name. The name oddly reminds me of what the name Fabio has become, because of the model who bears that name.
