Iden
I had an Uncle IDEN. He was English and born in Essex around 1910. I asked my mother where this came from and she said it was after his (Iden's ) uncle. Any ideas or other Idens out there?

Possibly an alternate spelling of the Irish Aidan?

Possibly; working on the basis that his Dad could not read or write, making most of his spellings were a bit alternative, I guess you could be right! I suppose the chances of his uncle's dad doing either seem remote. Thanks for your help, if I can find no-one else called and spelt Iden I will assume you are correct.
Cheers

I have no idea myself, but Zelda may have something there about it being an alternate spelling of Aidan . They do sort of sound the same.
