The significance of Michael and Jesus
This is a clarification of the origin of the name "Michael" which means "Who is like God ?"....and for good reason , as it is the secondly conceived name in the universe . The very name "Michael", asking as it does, "Who is like God ?"points to the fact that Jehovah God is without like, or equal, and that "Michael" his archangel is his great Champion or Vindicator. The first being ,of course, the name of God himself, "YAHWEH" in the first and original language of Hebrew, and when translated to English is "JEHOVAH", which means "He causes to become". The Bible includes the names of only two angels in it's entirety...."Michael" and "Gabriel". Michael is the only one implied by scriptural evidence to be the "archangel" which means "chief angel" or "principal angel" as the term is only applied in singular form. Colossians 1:15 reads "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation ;"....meaning that he ,"Michael " ,was the first of God's creations and that he was in the likeness of God (having his thoughts , mindset , and characteristics). The scripture further concludes that "all other things came into existence through him (Michael), and for him." ..See Colossians 1:15-20 . Colossians1:19-20 reads "...because [God]saw good for all fullness to dwell in him, and through him by making peace through the blood [he shed] on the torture stake, no matter whether they are things upon the earth or the things in the heavens. This clearly points to only "Jesus Christ" . Also Thessalonians 4:16 expresses that "the voice of the resurrected Lord Jesus is descibed as being that of an archangel",also known as "Michael" in his prehuman existence. Also see Proverbs 8:22-31...These scriptures show Jesus speaking of his prehuman existence (as Michael), describing himself as the "masterworker" that "God was specially fond of day by day." Michael was also known as "The Word" . "The Word" ,meaning "the word of God" was the appropriate title given him as he was the best representative of the true God . After all , knowing and seeing God's wonderful qualities "day by day " would certainly qualify him to be the first choice to send to mankind to define God's laws and ransom his perfect , righteous life in exchange for the perfect , righteous life that "Adam" lost for us all, in order to balance the perfect scales of justice . Who else but Jesus could have accomplished such a thing ???
