Meaning & History
Possibly means "he who comes forth from the Meslam (the name of a temple in Kutha)". Name borne by Mespotamian god who, along with his twin brother Lugal-irra, was thought of as a guardian of doorways. They were identified with the constellation Gemini, and were primarily worshipped in the cities of Kisiga and Durum. Meslamta-ea was later syncretised with the god Nergal.
