Meaning & History
Probably a name from a regional Chinese dialect/language rendered in Chinese characters. It was borne by several individuals during the Spring and Autumn Period (770 - 473 BCE), most notably Guan Yiwu (管夷吾), otherwise known as Guan Zhong (管仲) and a famous chancellor for the state of Qi. Guan Zhong helped Qi become a hegemonic power during his years of service, and the Guanzi (管子), a later text on economic and administrative philosophy, is usually attributed to him. Other bearers of this name include Duke Hui of Jin (晋惠公) and King Yiwu of Wu (吴王夷吾).
