From the name of the capital city of the US state of Kansas (see Topeka).

This was also borne by a Mohave (Native American) woman who took in Olive Oatman (1837-1903) and her sister Mary Ann after the girls were abducted and traded to the Mohave tribe by another group of south-western Native Americans.
