Meaning & History

Derived from Latin argentum meaning "silver" combined with the feminine adjectival suffix -ina.

In later times, this name came to be associated with the country of Argentina in South America, of which the name is of Italian origin (rather than Spanish) and was first recorded in the first half of the 16th century.

A famous bearer of this name was the Argentine actress Argentina Brunetti (1907-2005).
