Meaning & History
Possibly derived from English fare north, the word fare meaning "to go, to travel" (as well as "a journey, a voyage"), and perhaps modelled on the English surname Farnworth. This was adopted as a middle name by Yule Farenorth Kilcher (1913-1998), original name Julius Jakob Kilcher, a Swiss-born Alaskan who helped write the Alaska State Constitution and served as a member of the Alaska State Senate during the mid-1960s. He was the patriarch of a family documented on the reality television series Alaska: The Last Frontier (2011-); cast members Eivin and Eve Kilcher used the name for their son, Findlay Farenorth Kilcher, born 2013.
