Meaning & History
Possibly a Gallicized form of Aredius. This was the name of a 6th-century Catholic saint born at Limoges, France, also known as Saint Aredius, who served for a time in the court of the Franks and then founded the monastery of Atane in Limousin. The monastery and also the surrounding village of Saint-Yrieux were named in his honor.
