Meaning & History
The name was most likely invented for the character of a little girl in the German film "Wickie und die starken Männer", released in 2009. It was probably based on the Scandinavian name Ylva meaning "she-wolf". It quickly caught on in Germany as a Nordic sounding given name and has enjoyed some popularity in the Netherlands as well, spelled Ilvy. It is most likely a modern German invention, but has been used rarely as a given name in Scandinavian countries as well.
