Willi Baumeister (1889-1955) was a German abstract painter. In 1928 he was appointed professor of typography at the Stadel School in Frankfurt.

This is the name of one of my Dutch great-aunts. I thought it was a nickname for Wilhelmina, but her name really is just Willi. I think that the feminine meaning may be derived from a kind of fairy in Germanic mythology called the Wili or Veela.
