If you look at the Wikipedia page for the given name Walker, you will see it's actually been frequently used as a first name as far back as the 1700s. The surname Walker being used as a given name is not in any way a recent development, though it has had a major boost in popularity recently. But really, using Walker as a first name isn't any different than naming your kid something like Jackson, Madison, Harrison, or Wilson — all of which are very obviously surnames as well, yet incredibly common as first names.Wikipedia link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walker_(given_name)Under the section titled "Notable people with the name 'Walker' include", you will see that there are approximately 70 different people listed named Walker that were famous enough to even have a Wikipedia article written about them, six of which were born in the 1700s with the rest mostly being born in the 1800s and the 1900s.In other words, I think it's fair to say that naming your child "Walker" is perfectly reasonable and acceptable — and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I honestly don't get the appeal of this name. It sounds so ugly and surnamey, not to mention walkers are what many old people and disabled people use to get around. This name actually sounds kinda ableist, come to think of it.
I have no idea how anyone hasn't mentioned Walker Scobell, a child actor known for his roles in Percy Jackson and the Adam Project. He's probably the most famous Walker in the spotlight rn.
Honestly my least favorite name. I've never met anyone with the name, and no offense to any guys out there with the name Walker, but I personally just don't like it. It should be a last name. If your name is an actual word, it should at least be a nice one. Not Walker, which is just someone who walks. It's kind of boring in my opinion. Anyway, I have been thinking about my least favorite names and Walker came out on top, so I decided I would "review" it. So no hate to any Walkers out there, this is just my personal opinion. And I guess it isn't your fault your parents named you this. A lot of people don't like my name either, but it is what it is. Sorry.
I think people are way too picky when it comes to names. There is nothing wrong with this name. You can have many middle names with this that go good with it. Walker Leon, Walker James, etc. I don't know why people seem to think the only good, worthy names are the basic names like Rebecca or Daniel. There's nothing wrong with those names, but they are so common. I think last names as first names are pretty cool, and it's annoying seeing people say this name is ugly, because it's not. There are no ugly names.
We named my son Walker William and it fits with our last name. We really thought we were having a girl and this was a name that we played around with. I love the name. It's a bit confusing for some people because our last name is also a first name. But at least he doesn't have to spell it to people all the time. LOL Oh by the way, William covered both Grandpas... one with a first name and one with a middle name.
Famous Broadway singer and actress, Idina Menzel has a son named Walker Nathaniel Diggs born on September 2nd 2009 with ex husband Taye Diggs who she split with in late 2014. I personally love the name and think it holds a lot of character.
I don't get this name- or, more specifically, why someone would use it as a first or middle name. Walker is a surname. It just doesn't work as a first\middle name at all. Imagine naming your kid this and he turns out to be wheelchair bound? Also, Walker is a device elderly or disabled people use to help them get around. Walker: Keep it as a last name. Some surname names I like and admire. Walker just doesn't work.

Not terrible, but definitely more fitting for a last name.
I always liked this name even though it is very surnamey. Also it is the name of that table like thing people use to help them walk. Not a good association.
My favorite author is named Walker Percy. He is a true brilliant Southerner, the "Last Gentleman"! I want to name my son after him.
