My great grandmother and great aunt were both named "Vonnie Mae" (born in the early 1900s and the 1930s). People often mis-heard them and called them "Bonnie", but that's probably where the name originated in my family anyway and Vonnie was a diminutive. They were from VERY rural Arkansas-- so rural that the town they lived in doesn't exist anymore. A quick google search will show you a lot of obituaries for the name "Vonnie", but clearly it was never popular enough to make a huge impression and isn't used very often anymore. I put it in the same category as "Twyla" for that reason. I love this name and its unique history.
