Meaning & History
The first element of this name is derived from the Lithuanian verb vyrauti meaning "to prevail, to (pre)dominate", which is etymologically related to the Lithuanian noun vyras meaning "man". The second element is either derived from the Lithuanian verb gaudyti meaning "to take" as well as "to catch, to hunt" or from the Lithuanian adjective gaudus meaning "sonorous, resonant, ringing, loud, echoing".
