Unity Dow (née Diswai) is a Motswana lawyer, human rights activist, specially elected member of parliament, and a writer. She formerly served as a judge on the High Court of Botswana and in various government ministries. Unity Phelan is an American ballet dancer. She joined the New York City Ballet in 2013 and was promoted to principal dancer in 2021. Outside of the company, she had also danced in films John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and I'm Thinking of Ending Things.
I rather like this name. I don't know why, I just find it really pretty and unique. I haven't known any Unitys but I really like the sound of the name.
My name is Unity, if my mother had more kids she would have named them Hope and Harmony. It is NOT a stripper name thanks very much and I am thirteen. Also Unity Mitford was indeed a Nazi but her sisters were very beautiful people.
Unity is a Puritan virtue name. Virtue names were meant to remind people of moral qualities. Other names include Obedience, Temperance, Piety, Prudence, and Patience. Some Puritan virtue names that are still used today are Grace, Joy, and Hope.
Unity seems too wordy. The -ity part doesn't help. I can see it in a grammatical exercise. As a given name... It is good in theory but also if I were anglophone I would choose other meanings. It has a nationalist vibe, which is a bit negative in my mind.
I like Una, but Unity seems very political to me and I have no idea why. It isn't just Unity Mitford as well... and it is not the fact that it is so political that ruins it for me, but it may ruin it for some people.

This name is a beautiful rarity! I love the sound of it and that it is a scarcely used virtue name. I love the idea of the nickname "Unie", too. There aren't many names that begin with the initial "U" which makes this name even more appealing and wonderful! Perfection.
I like the name as it connects to the U.S. where there is not much political unity. However, as a practicing Jew, a famous British Nazi is not a famous bearer I would want to ever consider naming someone with. The connection would be shameful.

In Mary Pickford's 1918 film "Stella Maris", she played a dual role; the title character, a typical "pretty Pickford" role, and Unity Blake, a bitter, disfigured housemaid. Her performance is stunning - if you didn't know it beforehand, you'd never believe both characters are played by the same woman. Had the Oscars existed then, she would surely have won.
It's a pretty word and a beautiful concept, but it sounds a bit like either a hippie name or some wacky religious cult name. Besides, I can't get over the fact that this was the name of that Nazi Unity Mitford.
Seems to have been used a bit in Ireland/Scotland as an anglicized and elaborate form of Una.Love it, just not the Unity Mitford reference.

Name of one of the famous Mitford sisters of Great Britain. Unity Valkyrie Mitford was an avid, rabid supporter of Hitler and his régime. She inspired the character of Bellatrix Lestrange in J. K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter' series.
She earned a law degree in 1983 from the University of Botswana and Swaziland, though her studies were completed in Swaziland and University of Edinburgh, Scotland, as Botswana had no law school at the time.
