Meaning & History
This is the name of the protagonist of the North African fairy tale "Udea and her Seven Brothers".According to professor John R. Maier, the name of the heroine (Udea, Wudei'a and other spellings) is a linguistic pun related to the destiny of her brothers: her name is related to the word wada'a "sends away", which is what happens to the heroine's brothers as soon as she is born.
