Meaning & History
The meaning of the name as a whole is uncertain. The first element should be derived from the Georgian noun თვალი (tvali) meaning "eye" (also compare Mamistval and Mzistvala), whilst the second element is uncertain. It should probably not be connected to Georgian ჩინეთი (chineti) meaning "China", even though it is somewhat reminiscent of it.
