Meaning & History
Feminine form of Trophimos (Late Greek) and Trophimus (Late Roman). This is the name of a saint who was martyred with several others in the city of Lugdunum (nowadays Lyon in France) in 177 AD. It is also one of the names by which the 7th-century Sicilian saint Trophimena (better known under the Italian form Trofimena) is known, which suggests that at least in her case, Trophima is a contracted form of her name.
