My mom was pulling for the name Katrina, but my dad said it sounded too similar to the noise he makes when he sneezes. They settled on "Trina" instead. =)
My name is Trina, though my grandmother was adamant in using the spelling 'Trena'. Both would be pronounced as "TREE-nah". I always used the definition of the name that came from Katrina = "Purity", but I've seen a Hindu definition of it that means "Piercing Grass".
Character in the musical Falsettos. Trina is a Jewish housewife whose husband leaves her for another man. Pronounces it TrIHna (close to TrEna) and not Treena.
Trina (also variantly spelled as Triena) is also used in Dutch and Limburgish, where it is a short form of Catharina and Katharina. It is pronounced as 'TREE-nah' in both languages.- http://www.meertens.knaw.nl/nvb/naam/is/Trina (in Dutch) - see page 2 of "Limburgse Veurname", a PDF-file containing Limburgish names, which is located at http://www.veldeke.net/1032667881.htm (in Limburgish)It has always been a rare name officially (as short names and nicknames have traditionally rarely been registered as official names in the Netherlands; people have always registered their children by their full names), but not at all informally, at least for people born before the 1970s. After that, the name Catharina decreased in popularity (as did Katharina) and so did its short form Trina. As a result, Trina is now considered a rather old-fashioned name. (Young) Dutch women named Catharina or Katharina today will go by a different and more fashionable short form of the name, such as Cato and Keet.
This is an occasional nick-name for me as my given name is Catriona and I used to hate it when some people called me Trina but now I really love it and wish people called me it more often as this is such a good name! (for nick-name purposes) If this was used for a given name it would seem odd. But nice.
Trina is a character in the film "Penny Serenade" adopted by Cary Grant and Irene Dunne, Cary treats her like a princess but is heart-broken when she dies. This name is for a princess.
I like the soud of the name Trina but every time I hear it I think of my friend's annoying little sister. She is named Katriona and goes by it shortened to Triona, but still pronounced Tree-nah.
I think the name Trina is very beautiful. For a little girl I picture like a pretty little ballerina. That's what I think of when I think of a little girl named Trina. I believe I may name my future daughter this.
My name is Trina. It's not short for anything just Trina. I don't know where my mother got the idea for my name but I wouldn't change it for the world. I love my name and I have only ever heard of one other person with the name Trina.
