Meaning: Either from Eastern Iranian Tahmirih meaning "brave" or "strong" (also compare Pahlavi tahm or Avestan takhma meaning "strong") or Turkic temür meaning "iron". This was the name of a 6th-century queen of the Massagetae (an ancient Iranian tribe) who defeated Cyrus the Great during his invasion of Central Asia.
