I think I am the first or only Puerto Rican/Spainard woman with the name TOMIKO. My mother named me this because when I was born I looked Japanese. She also states that she got the name from a TELE NOVELLA that played on TV in Puerto Rico back in 1972. I was born in 1974. As a child I never liked my name because I was teased a lot but now... I LOVE IT! And its description is truly my character, spirit and personality.
Tomiko Okazaki was a Japanese politician of the Democratic Party of Japan, a member of the House of Councillors in the Diet (national legislature). A native of Fukushima, Fukushima and high school graduate, she worked at TV and radio stations. In 1990, she was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time as a member of the Japan Socialist Party. She lost her seat in 1996 but was elected to the House of Councillors for the first time in 1997.
Tomiko Suzuki was a Japanese voice actress. She was born in Aichi Prefecture and was a member of Aoni Production. Suzuki's last film was Pokémon: Jirachi Wishmaker (where she voiced the protagonist Pokémon: Jirachi), released only a week and half after Suzuki's death from a heart attack on July 7, 2003 at the age of 47. Coincidentally, July 7 is the beginning date of Tanabata, the basis for the creation of Jirachi.
I believe that I am the first black Tomiko as I have never met or heard of one older than me, spelled correctly or otherwise. My mother named me after a character in the movie A Girl Named Tamiko played by France Nyugn. I believe movie came out in 1963 and I was born in 1966. Not sure why she changed the spelling from that in the movie.
