Tierney is the best friend of Gloria Jade Ellis in the book 'Twenty Questions for Gloria' by Martyn Bedford. I love this name for a girl and the association. It could work for a boy but I have only ever heard it on a girl so it's a bit hard to get my head around.

I always think of the 1940's actress, Gene Tierney. Yes, she was Gene, not Jean. Her most remembered role, for me, was in the film noir, Laura, with its haunting theme music. I also think of the word tyranny.

Tierney is the name of the adopted daughter of the late anti-Communist senator Joseph McCarthy.
