Thornton Dial (1928-2016) was a pioneering African-American artist from Alabama who came to prominence in the late 1980s. Dial's body of work exhibits formal variety through expressive, densely-composed assemblages of found materials, often executed on a monumental scale. His range of subjects embraces a broad sweep of history, from human rights to natural disasters and current events. He is also the founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Souls Grown Deep Foundation, an organization dedicated to the preservation and documentation of African American art.
In 2018, 63 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Thornton who is registered male with the Social Security Administration. It is the 6445th most common male first name for living U.S. citizens.

Pretentious, but strangely charming. When you see the Thorn in there it's also a bit scary.
In England, "Thornton" is mainly used as a surname. The only place I have actually ever seen this name being used, as a first name, is in the Sims 3 ("Thornton Wolff").

This may sound weird, but while I love Thorston/Thorsten in English, this name strikes me as too surname-y and annoyingly elitist and pretentious.
