Gender Masculine
Meaning & History
Latinized form of the Greek given name Θεοφόρος (Theophoros), which was derived from the Greek elements θεος (theos) "god" and φορεω (phoreo) "to carry, to bear". For the latter element, also compare Greek φερω (phero), which has the same meaning. This is the name that Ignatius of Antioch, who lived in the 1st century AD, often went by.
