Empress Theophanu (960-991) was a Byzantine princess and the wife of Otto II, Holy Roman Emperor. She was criticized for her decadence, which included bathing once a day, and is credited with introducing the fork to Western Europe.
This is an absolutely gorgeous, regal name. It's hard to believe that the trendy name Tiffany is derived from this (although Tiffany itself is actually an old name). Theophania is so... otherworldly.
