Tevfik Esenç (1904-1992) was the last known speaker of the Ubykh language, one of the Circassian languages and notable for its large number of consonants. Esenç is the source of current knowledge of the language, which rapidly disappeared after the Ubykhs migrated to Turkey during the Circassian genocide.
