This name is a hidden gem! I love that it’s uncommon but still beautiful! I would definitely choose this name if I have a daughter in the future, or make it a part of her name.
Starla Brodie (1955 – 2014) was an American poker player. She was a two-time World Series of Poker champion having won the 1979 Mixed Doubles - No Limit Hold'em (with Doyle Brunson) and the 1995 $1,000 Ladies - Limit 7 Card Stud event.
Beautiful, uncommon, really pretty name, Starla! Looks a lot better than just Star or something like that. I like this name a lot, it has quality, mature enough and it doesn't feel like some made up name, because the sound is similar to names like Marla, Carla. I like it!
I love the name. It is more unique than Stella. When I hear Stella, I think of Stella Artois beer. It's a quirky name that is less "hippie" than star and is cuter than Carla.
On behalf of all Starla's around the world, I'd like to apologize to all you salty little bitches for the reasons that you are trashing my name. I'm sorry that I have a higher education than you. I'm sorry that I make more money than you. I'm sorry that your name is not unique, and quite literally doesn't translate to "of the stars." I'm sorry that your parents were completely unimaginetic when they gave you your analog names like Courtney, Amber and Tiffany. I'm sorry that your man wants me, it's not your fault sweetie, I'm cuter than you- and there are a thousand Baleighs and Ashleigh's and Tori Lyighn's out there whose cottage core moms thought they were being unique. They weren't unique, they were illiterate. Most of you aren't actually qualified to share your sorry little opinions, because in a battle of wits I'm afraid you come ill-equipped. So to all of the haters (AKA FANS WITH SEVERE JEALOUSY ISSUES) I'm sorry that a girl named Starla either took your man, your job, scored higher on on every test, outran, out played, and outsmarted you. It's quite simple really, you just fall short of any individuality or personality that would set you apart from the sea of Stephanie's. I am sorry that a girl named Starla probably put you in your place at some point and therefore you think that you have to go online and disrespect a name. What's in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name, would still smell as sweet. Using Shakespearean logic, I propose that the same people who disrespect the name Starla would still hate if my name were Britney, because the personality comes with or without the name. I'm sorry that someone dropped you on your head when you were a baby named Kinsley and so you're at a disadvantage to those of us that just always knew our worth. With a name like Starla you actually have something to live up to, people expect greatness. Heavy is the crown honey, but I wear it well... you just aren't cut out to be anything other than... whatever it is you call yourself. So go on, hate, scream, cry and tell me how trashy you think my parents were Tina, because there's something you should know about STARLA'S: we don't give a care what you think, your opinion is not even considered. We're too busy for your high school drama nothing can phase us. But at least you FINALLY have our attention, too bad all we have to offer you is pity.
So to all the nay sayers... I personally would never change my BEAUTIFUL name for anything! I was absolutely blessed to have been named something so original and ordinary that some uncultured hadn’t a clue that it was even a name. I have had friends name their daughters after me because of the beauty and uniqueness it carries. It takes a large minded person to think outside of the Jessica, Jennifer, Annie, Sally, Ruby, etc box. I have also named my child with names that are outside the box but not so far as Apple or North, etc. With that said I don’t hate those names either especially because when there are “adults” out there like “Y’ALL” the odds are already against them!
I absolutely love this name. I don't understand the hate for a name much less one that is as beautiful as Starla. My wife hates it. I wanted to name my daughter Starla. My wife absolutely would not have it... she says it's a stripper name... we ended up naming her Jocee. But Starla is what I wanted. Here we are over a decade later and we still argue over this name.
All the negative comments are in themselves trashy and insensitive. I'm 64 and have never been unhappy with my name, Starla. I usually get compliments on it, and people ask me where it comes from. It's basically an anglicized version of Stella as -stel- in Greek means 'star', like the 'stel' in constellation, and therefore is an original American name. My mom chose the name because her minister's daughter had that name. I'm also a university language specialist, so from the backwoods I'm not. It also fits those who like to be original. I'd prefer my name over the thousands of kids born every year named after the top ten popular names of the year. Yet I'd never trash those names to the parents.
My cousin was named Starla in 1959-1960. She isn't trashy at all. She is a lovely woman. Though, my mother did not like the name but she obviously would never let my cousin know her feelings about her name, instead chose to nickname her "twinkle toes".

Starla is gorgeous! It’s so regal & super elegant. I love how it can be shortened to Star, so very pretty. May I mention, I’m not sure what everyone’s obsession is with porn stars but what is tacky is that you’d bring it up. Ava Devine is one of the nastiest around but that hasn’t deterred anyone!
I think this is a beautiful name! Not tacky at ALL!, it's just a really cute and pretty variant of Star. This name is WAY less tacky than your average Brittney, Courtney, or Tiffany. So if you think those names are pretty than this is 10 times as pretty.
I think Starla is harsh, ugly, "strippery", and dated. I picture a super skinny middle aged woman with dyed black hair wearing a half-shirt with her wrinkled belly hanging out and a cigarette in the corner of her mouth.

Starla happens to be my name and I am very proud of it. I love its uniqueness and have been told it is a very beautiful name. It's no more trashy than names like Britney or Tiffany and my name has a bit of a story so I am quite disappointed at some of these hateful comments.
Starla is the name of my oldest daughter. Of course I love the name. We named her after the title of a Smashing Pumpkins song, "Starla". When we chose the name, family and friends would look at us like we were crazy for picking such a "hippie" or "dumb" name... but we're not the type who really gives a crap what others think. I find the name to be feminine, sweet, and unique. My daughter is such an intelligent, creative, free spirited little girl with an attitude as big as her heart. I think people with negative perceptions about this name have never met a Starla in real life. We still get people who give a weird look when they learn the name of our daughter, but nowadays I don't think Starla is really any more weird of a name than other modern day names. I love the name and couldn't imagine calling my little girl anything else.

The name Starla was given to 49 girls born in the US in 2015.
I prefer Stella by miles. Starla does sound like a tacky name, but I don't hate it. I actually don't think it would make a bad middle name, but as a first name, it does sound like something a porn star would use.
My middle name is Starlazalia. It's my legal name. Two names put together that I chose for myself in 2008. The name Starla is not trashy. It is a beautiful, unique, classy name. I love it. Anyone who doesn't is jealous.
There is totally nothing wrong with being named Starla. My name is status and I am not trashy or any of the other rude and cruel things that have been said. Some people just need to grow up. Judging people by their name is ridiculous.
My name is Starla and frankly, I find it very rude of people to judge people based off of the name they are given! I fought for our country and now I am a disabled veteran! All I can do is pray for all you haters that have nothing better to do with your time than to bash people, whose name is different then yours! Just because someone looks different, their name's different, or acts different we all bleed the same, and we all have feelings! Last I had heard GOD was the only one that can judge people! This country needs a lot of prayers and I will be keeping each and everyone of you in my prayers! For all you females that are named Starla's, don't listen to any theses rude comments, it's nothing but pure evilness!
Well I can't say anything bad about the name Starla, because that is my name. I don't think it is trashy, or terrible at all. My father was a hippie and that's where the name came from- hippies like stars, etc. But I love my name. :)
I think the Name is good because that is my name and it maches my personality! People think it is really bad and disgusting, but I for one want to know why?! Why don't people like my name? It is an amazing name for a girl. If you don't like it, or even think it is so disgusting then just don't say anything to the people that have that name cause you never know who does! It can hurt little kids that have this name, like me- people that say things like that are hurting my feelings! I don't care that you don't care, but other people might!
There sure are a lot of harsh, mean comments for the name Starla! It certainly doesn't deserve all the unfair hate. The name Starla is beautiful and unique. I totally get the appeal of this name. =) I do think of Starla from Regular Show though! :P.

Not fond of the name. It seems to me like... the sort of name someone would call their sparkledog fursona if they saw that 'Star' was overused. Like, wannabe special.
Personally, I think this is an ugly, tacky sort of "unique" name. But I did know a Starla growing up, and she is now an accomplished adult in a professional career, not a stripper. It's not a name I find very nice but you can succeed with it.
My wife's name is Starla. I'm very dissappointed with the negative comments here. It's a wonderful name and so uncommon. Starlas are all awesome and it's a great name!
I can not believe all the stupid comments. Grow up people, it's a name! I LOVE my name and am proud of it. STARLA is no more a trashy name than Tiffany or Brittany and it's much less common. I am neither trashy nor tacky. I happen to be a Registered Nurse. I worked my butt off to put myself through college and am currently working on my masters degree. There are many names I am not crazy about and would never consider for my child, some I wouldn't even consider for my pets but I would never insult someone based on their name. You know what you call that? Classy and mature. I am a member of a group dedicated to ladies named STARLA and they are fantastic. Very proud to be Team STARLA!
My name's Starla and I never ever liked it growing up but going by star as a nickname's really cool and has become a lot more modern and I even have the nickname Estrella that I really like since I'm Native American and am mistaken for Mexican a lot anyways. I always have people mispronouncing my name like carla, darla, scarlet, stella, scar which is really frustrating so half the time I go by my middle name of Rose which is a lot less embarrassing. I don't think it's a trashy stripper white trash porn star name! But it definitely isn't as feminine or pretty as some people might think.
My name is Starla. Starla Doreen to be exact. When I was younger, I did not like my name as I was constantly being called Scarlet, Charlotte, or Darla by adults and "Starlight" by my peers. Once I reached my late teens, I developed an appreciation for my name. I have had many people tell me all over the world (I'm military) they love my name and it suits my personality. I am a wife, mother, very personable and creative, with a wicked sense of humor. I even laugh at my name being on "The Regular Show" and "Napoleon Dynamite". Although the characters are a bit scary, I find it a compliment. I am a working professional with an advanced degree, which did not require me swinging from a pole or making videos to obtain. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I caution you not to link negativity to names, consider the soul of the person who wears the name. I previously worked in a school district where parents named their children names of cars and alcoholic beverages. Like one of the contributors stated, we did not choose our names, our names were given to us. Names are not ugly... some people's behaviors are ugly!
My name is Starla & let me tell u I am far from being trash or a trailer park whore. You can't go by a name on what a person is like. I am a wife & mother of beautifully successful children. I've been told I am a very humble person who would give u the shirt off her back. So before you judge people by their names, find out just what kind of person they really are. People don't choose their names, they're given their names. So think before you speak!
I guess I'm the odd one who actually likes the name Starla. When I first saw it, my thoughts were far from concluding it's trashy or tacky. Why in the world would a name be trashy? I see people use that adjective to describe names on here, and that is truly nothing but classist. True, to some people's ears Starla may not sound pretty, but that doesn't mean its tacky or trash. People are trashy, not their names. And anyways, when I, personally, think of the name Starla, I imagine a beautiful, intelligent, and imaginative woman with long hair.

The name Starla was given to 73 baby girls born in the US in 2012.
I can't think of anything but Rex's super manly wife in Napoleon dynamite when I hear this name, no matter how hard I try.

I think Starla is a lovely name. I don't understand why so many people hate it and call it trashy. A person is trashy, not their name. So many hateful people... :(
I think it is funny when people say a certain name is trashy as no it is not. No one's name is trashy.

I'm guilty for finding it a little on the pretty side, but it's still very tacky and sounds like a cheap combination of Stella and Darla, both much better names.
Starla is simple, easily pronounced and spelt and sounds quite pretty, however, I would never use it because it is slightly trashy, I suppose.

It's a pity that this name is so pretty, because, honestly, it is VERY trashy. I'm not sure if its trashiER than Star, but they are neck-and-neck in the Trashiest Name Contest. If you love the meaning, go with Stella. You love the sound? Go with Darla. They're both reasonable, less trashy, MUCH prettier alternatives.
This name sounds a little less pathetic than Star, but it still makes me think that the parents want their daughter to be a celebrity. It also sounds like "starlet", which will lead to teasing.
Seconded, WilderThanBridget (though I do disagree with your suggestion of 'Stella' as an alternative) and CanadianChibi. Though the meaning may be a little too literal, it's a nice name.
This name has never been trashy or ghetto to me at first glance. I think it's mature, really. It's so beautiful. I don't understand the hate.Nevertheless, I think it'd be a good idea to name a child this. And I doubt all Starlas will grow up to be porn stars. Where the heck you people get these associations from, is beyond me.
Hm, why do people hate this name so much? My name's Starla and I really love it! Well, people usually call me Star anyway, but seriously, I don't see why Starla's such an ugly name. I guess it's just me; I would hate to be called Jessica or something (sorry to insult all the Jessicas here).
Not surprised at the amount of rude comments, but geez, people. A porn star? Get a grip! Starla isn't the best name out there, but it isn't the worst, either. If you're considering this, I'd suggest Stella. : )
The name Star is a tacky, infantile name associated with trashy people whose only hope of getting rich is that their daughter becomes famous for being an r'n'b singer, outrageous talk show host, or some type of all-American successs story. So, I'd say that adding a -la to it doesn't make it any less tacky. If you really like the sound of this, name your daughter Darla.
Hey it's a cool name! But whenever I think of a name that is related or coming from the name Star, it always makes me think of unoriginality. Like people are getting bored with the classics and most commons like Mary and Lucy and so they are inventing more exotic ones. But Starla is pretty cool!
I think Starla is a beautiful name! It's unique and unpopular and has a gorgeous meaning. Those of you who think that it's a whore-sounding name are disgustingly close minded. Just because it has a few unworthy bearers doesn't make the name any worse. I can't even imagine what kind of terror you people are at school, making fun of people because of their names.

I find this to be a lovely alternative to the name Star.
I understand where you people are coming from, but I guess, since it's my name, I was used to it being used for an adolescent. I am not sure how my parents came up with Starla, but I can infer that it was in honour of a distant relative. Or not.
This is my own name. The good points are that it's easy to spell, leaves no doubt that I am female, and I didn't have to be one of several Starlas in school. I didn't even have to be one of two till I came onto the BTN boards in July! The bad points are it sounds trashy, like some third-rate over the hill stripper or a blowsy stretch-pants-wearing fat woman in a trailer park hoping to make it onto the Jerry Springer show. Also, when I worked as a dispatcher for a trucking company, I would answer the phone with "Trinity Trucking, this is Starla." Nine time out of ten, no matter how hard I tried to enunciate clearly, the other person thought I had said my name was Darla. As if rolling out "Trinity Trucking" quickly and clearly wasn't hard enough!
This really is a terribly tacky and ulgy name, in my opinion. It brings to mind the incredibly masculine wife of Rex in the film "Napoleon Dynamite". No child should have to suffer with this.
Hmmm, I beg to differ! Starla is beautiful name. :) Just because you don't like a person, it definitely doesn't mean that you should trash it. It is exotic and uncommon! But if you MUST, then whatever! Now, Kate is a completely different story!
